Behaviour Support

My Approach My Behaviour Support entails understanding your dog’s emotions (which are then reflected in their behaviour(s) that you are seeing) as well as what triggers have lead to those emotions. There are many things to take into consideration, including your dog’s lifestyle, their genetic behaviours (which can be influenced by their breed), their previous experiences, their health and their age.  Once we understand the triggers, we will then work together to help your dog to change their emotions leading to the challenging behaviour.

I offer 3 types of Programmes depending on the type and complexity of behaviour that you need support with.

All of my Programmes start with a Behaviour Consultation, which is when I work with you to identify what is causing your dog to behave in the way that they do.  I will ask you to complete a detailed Consultation Form and send it to me 72 business hours before the Consultation to enable me to prepare, plus an Authorisation Form, which will enable your vet to provide your dog’s medical history to me. You may also be asked to send relevant videos/photos of your dog and/or home to me.

After the Consultation, you will receive an Initial Report & Actions within 72 business hours. This will summarise my thoughts on your dog’s behaviour and what is causing it, set out the initial first steps for helping your dog and outline our next steps. I also provide standard helpsheets as an aide-memoire of aspects of our Consultation.

Depending on the Programme type, there will then be follow-up sessions (usually in person) where we will work together with your dog to support them and you. Please see my Terms & Conditions for the timescales in which these follow-up sessions need to be taken. Should additional sessions be needed, these can easily be arranged. You will receive a tailored Follow-Up Behaviour Support Plan.

Behavioural issues are often complex so you will need patience, understanding and consistency to help your dog. I fully understand just how difficult it can be to cope with a dog’s problems and am fully committed to using my expertise and time to help you rebuild your relationship with your dog and improve your confidence when working through their issues. I’m available to answer any questions you may have during the Programme that crop up outside our scheduled session times.

Note: in some cases, I may ask that your dog has a veterinary check to rule out pain or medical issues as contributing factors.
Dynamic Dog Assessment
When a dog is in pain or discomfort, this can manifest in behavioural problems which can’t be fully supported by behavioural therapy until the physical pain has been addressed.

A Dynamic Dog Assessment uses my knowledge of a dog’s anatomy and training in signs of discomfort to observe your dog’s movement and compile a detailed veterinary report with evidence to aid their diagnosis.

Adult Dog Training
My 1-2-1 training support is designed to help owners of adolescent and adult dogs with specific training needs, for example pulling on the lead or jumping up at visitors.

Rescue dogs sometimes need extra help when settling into a new home and my kind, simple techniques will enable them to learn in a positive, fun way.
